Is Anybody Out There?By Kathy Coudle King & the Grand Forks, ND Sib Shop Lyrics by Kathy Coudle King and Ron Franz Musical Arrangement by Ron Franz Copyright, 2003, Kathy Coudle King. A young boy runs into the theatre as laughter and teasing follows him. V.O. Hey, isn't that the kid with the goofy brother? V.O Didn't I see him at the mall? V.O. Really strange!
V.O. Wonder if he's normal? V.O. Yeah, maybe it runs in the family! The boy runs up on stage. His MOTHER is on her way out as he makes his way in. MOTHER Hi, honey, did you have fun at the park? You look a little flushed. DAVE Well, I, uh, yeah, it was fine. What's up?
MOTHER I have to run a few errands, would you mind watching your brother. Thanks. Oh, I forgot to give him his pills. Be a doll and do that for me? You're my little man. Be back as soon as I can. I have the cell if you need anything. See you in a bit. She leaves. Dave puts down his back pack. His brother is in a wheel chair watching television. The video tape is over, and the screen is showing static. The brother acts agitated. DAVE Okay, okay, let me rewind it. You have to wait a second while it rewinds. Just hold on a minute! Dave rewinds the tape as the brother gets more and more agitated, once that's squared away, he goes to the TV where there is a glass of water and a bottle of pills. He tries to get his brother to take the pills.
DAVE Come on, now. You know the drill. Why didn't she just give you the pills before she left! Ow! Don't bite! BROTHER (laughs) DAVE I'm glad you think it's so funny. Now swallow. Good. Please, just give me a few minutes, watch your video. Okay? DAVE sits down at the desk where there's a computer. SINGS SONG. The play contains two, moving songs dealing with sibs connecting with other sibs via the Internet. Sibnet and Sibkids, Internet listservs, were created by Don Meyers, and are excellent ways for adults and kids with disabled siblings to share resources, experiences, and encouragement. No one need to feel alone ever again. Thank you for visiting. Please come back and visit again!
